Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m., at Union Forbing Cemetery. Open visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m., Friday at Heavenly Gates.
Ms. Nita Annette Dixon was born on August 29, 1961 in Shreveport, Louisiana to the union of Mr. Levon and Mrs. Barbara Dixon. She confessed to Christ at an early age and was baptized by the late Reverend Garfield Johnson, Sr. at Mary Springhill African Methodist Episcopal Church. Nita remained a faithful and dedicated member of Mary Springhill African Methodist Episcopal Church. She served faithfully on the Usher Board for many years and exemplified "I'd rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of the wickedness': Her infectious smile and joyful spirit greeted members and guest, making everyone feel welcome. During her service as an Usher, Nita also served as both the Usher Board President and Usher Board Vice President. In addition she also served as a member of the Rebecca Holt Women's Missionary Society and Women's Choir; Nita was a strong supporter of all church activities and worked with many other auxiliaries in the church.
Nita was educated in the Caddo Parish School System, receiving her early education at 81 st Street School and graduating from Captain Shreve High School in 1979. She worked at Sam's Town Hotel & Casino for over ten years as a guestroom inspector and trainer and at Sam's Club as a greeter. Nita was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. Levon and Barbara Ann Dixon; one brother: Mr. Lenardis Dixon; grandparents: Mr. Ben and Mrs. Candis Dixon & Mr. Herman and Mrs. Oliva Adams; four aunts: Ms. Betty Diane Adams, Ms. Betty Jean, Ms. Ida Bell and Mrs. Velma Gibson; two uncles: Herman Adams, Jr. and James Henry. Nita departed this life on Tuesday, October 27, 2020.
She leaves to cherish her memory one son, Dillon Hartwell Dixon of Shreveport, Louisiana; one sister, Mrs. Beverly (Danny Sr.) Jackson of Shreveport, Louisiana; three brothers: Mr. Dewayne (Arneda) Adams of Shreveport, Louisiana, Mr. Bethel (Carolyn) Dixon of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Christopher Dixon of Houston, Texas; two aunts: Ms. Ella Roberson of Shreveport, Louisiana and Ms. Carolyn Porter of Philadelphia, PA; one uncle: Mr. George (Sharon) Adams of Riverview, FL; a host of devoted nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews, other relatives and friends.
