Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, October 26, 2019 at Colquitt B.C., Hosston, La. Interment will follow at Paradise Cemetery. Family hour from 7 to 8 p.m. Friday at Heavenly Gates.
Mrs. Bessie Morant was born in Hosston, Louisiana on November 3, 1919, to the late Charity and Will Clark, I. As a young child, she dedicated her life to Christ and became a life-long member of the Colquitt Baptist Church in Mira, Louisiana.
She attended Mary Thomas Church School in Hosston and traveled to Shreveport to enroll at Central Colored High School. She played basketball for the high school team and graduated in 1940. She continued her education at Grambling College in Grambling, Louisiana, and Wiley College in Marshall, Texas.
In 1955, Mrs. Morant began substitute teaching at Pine Valley Elementary School in Rodessa and Herndon High School in Belcher. In 1968, She began Community Outreach activities at the Rodessa Neighborhood Service Center where she was promoted to Coordinator in 1972.
Giving and caring from the heart were natural to Mrs. Morant. Her Community Outreach touched young and old members of the North Caddo Community. She helped many young adults select a college and find their first job.
Mrs. Morant departed this life on October 18, 2019. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charity and Will Clark, I; her husband, Leon Morant, Sr.; seven siblings, Edgar, Claudie, Will, Lee, Fannie, Edward and Johnny; and her daughter, Patty M. Morant.
Her memory will always be cherished in the hearts of: her sister, Mary Clark Pickens of Fayetteville, NC; her children, Rosy Douglas of Atlanta, GA, Leon Morant, Jr. (Rosyland) of Hosston, LA, Lonnell Morant of Deberry, TX, Donald Morant (Melissa) of Augusta, GA, and Winifred Morant of Hosston, LA; eleven grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, one great great grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, and very special friends.
At 99, Mrs. Morant was the longest living member of the Colquitt Baptist Church where she served as Secretary until her health declined. She enjoyed sewing, her pets, and was an avid gardener.
