Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, October 24, 2020 at New Elizabeth B.C., Interment will follow at Lincoln Cemetery. Open visitation will be from 11 to 4 p.m. Friday at Heavenly Gates.
Mrs. Bertha Lee Coleman Jimison was born July 20, 1947 to Reverend T.C. Coleman and Rosie Lee Sims Coleman in Hoston, Louisiana. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at a young age and continued to serve God as musician for several churches in Shreveport and Bossier City. She was a member of Galilee Missionary Baptist Church where Rev. E. Edward Jones was her pastor.
Mrs. Jimison graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1964. She went on to Grambling State University where she studied Sociology. She later attended Louisiana State University in Shreveport where she studied Real Estate. She later continued her education at Southern University in Shreveport for Paralegal Studies.
Jimison was a member of the Caddo Parish School Board until 1984. She also served as a Grants writer for the Caddo Community Action Agency. She worked for the Shreveport Job Corp Center as Supervisor of Recruiting until 1996. She then formed the Coleman Jimison Organization in 1997. She was a program developer and grants writer. She set up several Voters Registration campaigns across the south. She also went on the work for the Barack Obama for President Campaign in Dayton Ohio.
Mrs. Jimison leaves to cherish her memory her two children Brittani Jimison Shabazz (Arthur) and Thurston Carrington Jimison. Her brothers, Charles Coleman, Rev. Joseph L. Coleman (Joyce), and Jeremiah Coleman (Eura) and her sister Mary Coleman Godfrey (Ivan) as well as host of nieces, nephews and friends.
