Mr. Ronnie Jerome Battle-Necrology:     “On the road again…”

Mr. Ronnie Jerome Battle was born on March 29, 1959 in Shreveport, LA to the union of Mary and John Battle, Sr.  He was baptized at the age of 9 in Mt. Hermon Baptist Church.  He attended Mooretown Elementary, Bethune Junior High, and graduated with the class of 1977 from Southwood High School, all in Shreveport, LA.  After graduation he attended North Texas in Denton “Mean Green” where played football.  Ron played Professional Football and was drafted into the NFL by the LA Rams, as a tight end in 1981, and later traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1982.  He also played minor league football for the Shreveport Steamers before his retirement from Professional Sports.

Ron loved to travel and on one of his excursions he had a chance to meet Sue, Oct 27, 2005 and the rest is an enchanted Love Story.  They would cruise many more times and travel other places until his health made it impossible but… with Ron there was always an adventure.   He loved his family and friends to gather and he made time and space available for that always to be a memorable occasion. Ron’s dog, Bodass was the center of his pastime.  Bodass had to give way to other hobbies and concerns like riding four wheelers with the grand kids; driving sports cars, trucks, tractors and motorcycles.  No matter what, he never broke the comrade of his college classmates and team members.  He loved and accepted his wife’s family as his own and the spent countless days in Texas City, TX.

Because he never met a stranger, many people have been touched by his kindness of heart and purity of spirit.  He was constantly bringing home children and they never left.  There was always something to keep them occupied, everything was a learning experience.  He loved the country, animals, cars, tractors, trucks, the open highway and anything that rolled as gadgets go and he loved Sue.

Ron started work early with the family business, Battle & Sons.  Through the years he was employed with Moore’s Goodyear, Job Corp, Conco Food Services, Mission Petroleum, KCS Railroad, owner and operator of his own company, which included three 18 wheelers  in his fleet, Reinhart, and finally Groendyke Transportation.

Although Ron was a Jokester and there was never a dull moment while with him, he maintained a strong conviction in the Lord and that faith was the lynchpin in his final days that kept him connected to Christ.  Without any fanfare, crowds or need for approval, He climbed into to his favorite chair and went to sleep in the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.

Ron is preceded in death by mother and father, John and Mary Battle, Sr.; son, Brandon Battle; sister, Sandra Du Bose. He leaves to always cherish his legacy, his faithful and loving wife,  Aldonia Battle, daughter, Amber Battle; sons, Arnaz Battle (Billie), Eddie Johnson (Shayvon) and Carl Raymond, III (Shaylon); sister, Belinda Smith; brothers, Victor Battle (Wilda) and John Battle, Jr.; eight grandchildren; mother-in-law, Rose Miller; in-laws,  a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and many friends.
