Leon “Bae” McCray, 79, passed away peacefully at his home on April
29th, 2023, in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Leon was born May 8, 1943, to the late Leon McCray Sr. and Elsie Green
in Shreveport, La. He was the second of eight children. Leon accepted
Christ at an early age. He joined Union Star Baptist Church and was
baptized under the leadership of the late Rev. G. W. Odom. He later
joined Crusaders Temple C.O.G.I.C., under the leadership of Supt. Earl
Peterson, where he remained a faithful member until his passing. He
was a man of faith and worked to make sure the church had the supplies
it needed to operate daily. His dedication to God and church will not
be forgotten.
Leon attended Union High School, where he excelled at his studies and
was a member of the school’s marching band. He could be seen in the
hallways styling in his two- or three-piece suits. That sense of style
stayed with him well into adulthood. Leon wore many hats, he was a
businessman, he worked at Con-Steel, Louisiana Downs and started L&L
Trucking Company with his brother-in-law Edward Lee, Sr. He loved to
travel and lived in Iowa, Texas, and California, but there was no
place like home. He returned to his mother, family, and friends in
Shreveport, La., where he lived until his passing. Leon united in holy
matrimony with Mrs. Gloria “Precious” Johnson and later shared 30
wonderful years with his beloved Linda Faye Edwards, who preceded him
in death.
Leon leaves his six children to cherish his memory: Tyrone McCray
(Chasity), Dallas, TX; Dennis Diggs (Nakilia), Shreveport, LA; Lemale
Untray James, Shreveport, LA; April Ashley-Boston (Jeffrey),
Shreveport, LA; DeEric Bradley, Dallas, TX; Demarcus Bradley, Dallas,
TX. Siblings: Annie Ruth Lenox (Clay), Tacoma, WA; Barbara Ann Norton,
Shreveport, LA; Gloria Jean McCray Lee (Edward), Shreveport, LA; Min.
Johnny Ray Green, Shreveport, LA; Charles Ray Waites (Susie),
Shreveport, LA, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren,
nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends
