James Monroe Redden was born on June 7, 1928, to Shead and Florence Bailey Redden in Heflin, Louisiana. He walked in grace and lived by faith.

He graduated from Webster High School and attended the University of Tennessee State in Nashville, Tennessee, where he received a Bachelor of Arts in Agriculture and Industrial Science. After 43 years of service with Caddo Parish and Job Corp, he started another journey working with the Shreveport Parks and Recreation. He met and acquired true friendships with the other staff and the community who visited the center.

James was a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church. He also was a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. He was named the most valuable Omega from 1961 to 1962. He received the Shreveport Times Educator of the Year Award in 1970.

On February 12, 1952, he married his college sweetheart, Camille Johnson. To this union, five girls were born. Left to cherish his memories are his daughters Enid (Robert) Lattier of Lancaster, Texas, Rosland Bell, Shreveport, Louisiana, Jane O’Riley, Shreveport, Louisiana, Paula Singleton, New Orleans, Louisiana, Mona (Michael) Myers, Grand Prairie, Texas.
