Edward Julius Caesar – a devoted family man, longtime educator, and community leader – died Tuesday, May 2, 2023, after an extended illness.

Affectionately known by his family as Eddie, Mr. Caesar was small in stature, but he had an outgoing personality with a booming voice. Edward Caesar graduated from Grambling State University in 1964 with a B.S. degree. He obtained a Master of Education Degree from Southern University and completed additional studies at Louisiana Tech University and Northwestern University.  Edward Caesar was an elementary schoolteacher in Caddo Parish for over 35 years.  He was a Deacon at St. Rest Baptist Church, a past Secretary of the Deacon Board, a member of the Trustee Board, a member of the Youth Department Advisory Board, and a member of the choir where he sang bass.

He was an active member and past President of the Alpha Xi Sigma Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. His professional affiliations included the Caddo Teachers Association, the Louisiana Education Association, the National Education Association, a Life Member of the Caddo Heights Elementary School Parents Association, a Life Member of the Ingersoll Elementary School Parent Teachers Association, and a Life Member of the Louisiana Parent Teachers Association.

His community affiliations included being a longtime President of the School Park Civic Club, a Board Member of the Caddo Parish Community Action Agency, a past President of the Foster Grandparent Advisory Board, a member of the Grambling State University Alumni Association, and a member of the NAACP.

He was always ready to lighten the mood with a joke.  He believed in love as an action verb, as evidenced by how he packed love into the smallest acts. He was beloved by all who knew him.

Mr. Caesar is survived by his wife of nearly sixty years, Carolyn Allen Caesar; one son, David J.  Caesar and his daughter-in-law Lisa Caesar of Rocklin, California; two granddaughters, Sumner Caesar of San Diego, California, and Skylar Caesar of Dallas, Texas, and a host of dear family and friends.

A memorial service will be held at St. Rest Baptist Church located at 1664 Garden Street in Shreveport, Louisiana, at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 6.  Heavenly Gates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
