Mattie Ruth Landers Austin was born in Belcher, Louisiana on January 15, 1939 to the union of Arthur, Sr. and Canza Landers, who both preceded her in death. Mattie Ruth accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior and was baptized at Justice Chapel Baptist Church under the Pastorage of Reverend Robert Anderson.
She was united in holy matrimony on June 7, 1959 to the LOVE OF HER LIFE, Reverend Morris Austin and to this union three beautiful girls were born, Sundra Janette, Ruth Ann and Lisa Marie. She served alongside and supported her husband as he pastored and ministered to churches throughout the greater Shreveport and surrounding areas and across the country. She later joined and served with her husband at Trinity Baptist Church and remained faithful under Pastor Calvin Jackson leadership. She was a participant of the 13th District Minister’s Wives Association. She served 26 years with the Caddo Parish School System and Southern University where she taught living skills for special needs children.
She departed this life on Saturday, September 5, 2020 in Shreveport, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Ruth Ann Kelly; four (4) Brothers, Arthur Landers, Jr., Charlie Landers, Jewell Landers, and Robert Landers.
She leaves to cherish her memories: the Love of Her Life of 61 years, Pastor-Emeritus Morris Austin, two (2) daughters, Sundra Janette Ross (Kevin) of Allen, TX, Lisa Marie Austin of Shreveport, LA two (2) grandchildren, Jennifer Kelly, Killeen, TX and Joshua Morris Ross, Allen, Texas; four great grandchildren, Jayvieon Kelly, Jerrell Kelly, Anyah Adams and Aaliya Kelly all of Killen, Texas; her sister, Diane Farrow, Belcher, LA; her Canine Grandbaby, Dottie Mae Ross, Allen, TX, God-children, Tomas Waddles and Toni Waddles-Johns both of Shreveport, LA; and a loving host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services will be held ,Saturday, September 12, 2020 at Trinity B.C. at 11:00 a.m, Honorable Mentions and Special Thanks to the staff at Willis Knighton Hospital, Garden Park Nursing Facility and Heavenly Gates Funeral Home for the special love and care provided during the illness and transition of our beloved “Mattie Ruth Landers Austin”.
