Shreveport – Dr. Tara Tenitra Williams-Hart passed away peacefully after a months-long battle with cancer at her home on Tuesday, Aug. 25, 2020.  An open Visitation will be held at Noon to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2020, at the Heavenly Gates Funeral Home, 1339 Jewell Street in Shreveport.  A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Carver Memorial Cemetery in Shreveport.
Tara was born the second of three children in Shreveport on June 6, 1972, to Euridel Parker Williams and the late Clyde Allen Williams.  A dedicated and loving wife and mother, Tara accepted Christ at a young age and attended the Williams Memorial C.M.E. Temple Church where she was active in several ministries. As an adult, she joined the Word of God Ministries under Pastor James McMenis.
A graduate of Caddo Magnet High School, Tara earned a B.S. degree in Natural Sciences with a Biology concentration from Spelman College in 1994.  She earned her M.S. in 2000 in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and her Ph.D. in 2003 in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology.
Employed at LSU-Shreveport as a Professor in the Department of Biological Services, Tara had a heart for excellence in research and mentorship.  She earned numerous Excellence in Teaching awards and held memberships in leadership and scientific honor societies.  One area of training and expertise involved molecular genetics using Saccharomyces cerevisiae (budding yeast) as a model organism, and she is published in several peer-reviewed publications.  She has mentored future science professionals and was designated a “Distinguished Researcher” with the Louisiana Biomedical Research Network and the National Institutes of Health.
Tara was preceded in death by her father Clyde Allen Williams Sr. She is survived by her husband Willie of nearly 22 years; a daughter, Elizabeth; her mother Euridel Williams; a brother Allen; a sister Erika; a stepdaughter and stepson, Erica and Willie; and a host of other close relatives and friends along with her Sorors of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.
