Odell Broom Jr, CMSGT Ret of Bossier City passed away on January 11.2022, surrounded by loves ones.
Odell was born on 25 August 1932 to Odell and Cora Broom in Winston-Salem, NC.
Upon graduation of high school, he entered the US Air Force and embarked on a successful 30 year career where he served worldwide and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for service in the Vietnam War.
Upon retirement from the Air Force Odell continued to serve his community by working at Overton Brooks VA Hospital for 18 years.
Odell enjoyed home decoration, landscaping and was a boxing enthusiast. He was an inspiration and motivating person, encouraging all that he encountered to achieve their dreams both professionally and personally.
He was the master of drawing out managers discount form whomever the unsuspecting employee was.
Throughout his career, his loving and surviving wife Flora (Williams) Broom stood by his side for a marriage of 58 years.
He is predeceased by his parents Odell and Cora (Harding)Broom His siblings Carl, Delores, and Pearl: and children Ohara, Patricia and Fredrico.
He is survived by his wife and children Wylonda (Williams) Crawford, Renita (Broom) Mcarthur (Gregory), Odell Broom III (Trish), Larry Murrell, Phyliss Broom, Lydell Broom, Lorraine Pettaway numerous grand and great grandchildren. He was loved by all and will be missed.
Visitation will be held Wednesday 19 January 2022 at Heavenly Gates Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Graveside service will be 1 p.m., Thursday at Northwest La. Veteran Cemetery.
