Rev. Stanley Lewis Sr. Obituary

Rev. Stanley Wade Lewis, Sr. of Shreveport, LA was born in Keithville, LA on February 19, 1933.  He transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, Age 86.

He received his early education at Daisy Grove Elementary School, and his early spiritual training at home from his godly parents. He attended Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport, LA.

He served in the United States Army 1950 – 1954, during the Korean War, and he was honorably discharged. In 1962, he was ordained to The Gospel Ministry. He pastored Mt. Olive Baptist Church, Greenwood, LA (1965 - 1971); historic Friendship Baptist Church, Pasadena, CA (1972 - 1994); and, Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, Dubberly, LA (3 years Interim Pastor and 4 years Senior Pastor). He was currently a member of Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, Shreveport, LA where he faithfully served until his health declined. While pastoring, he continued his Theology education and earned a Bachelor of Theology degree, United Theological Seminary, Monroe, LA, 1972; Master of Arts degree, Fuller Theological Seminary, School of Theology, Pasadena, CA, 1976; and Master of Divinity degree, Azusa Pacific University, Azusa, CA, 1993.

He was recognized as a community leader and inspirational leader. He was a servant of God and mankind that studied and taught the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ; and, he fought for Human Rights and Social Justice.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy Matthew Lewis, Sr. and Lucy  V. Loper Lewis; wife, Marion Stinson Lewis; son, Stanley Wade Lewis, Jr.; four sisters Earnestine Lewis, Bessye Sampson, Lillie Robinson and Della Hines; and two brothers Timothy Lewis, Jr. and Manuel Lewis.

To cherish his memories, he leaves one grandson, Zaid Shaakir Lewis; two great grandsons Zaid Shaakir Wright and Za’Mari Shaakir Davis; one goddaughter Brandy Autry (Flo-Jo); one daughter-in-law, Janice Lee Lewis; one brother, Melvin Lewis; six sisters, Dorothy Merriweather, Bertha Merriweather, Zenobia Thomas, Tannie (Al) Bradley, Joyce Miller and Gay (Lawrence) Square; and a host of loving and devoted nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
