The celebration of life honoring Mrs. Josie Muriel Lemelle Pennywell will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in the sanctuary of Shiloh Baptist Church with Pastor Emphris Mims officiating.
Mrs. Pennywell will lie in state at 10:00 a.m. on Friday in the sanctuary of Shiloh Baptist Church until service time. After the service, Mrs. Pennywell will rest until the Lord return in the gardens of Northwest Lousiana Veterans Cemetery.
To every thing there is a season,
and a time to every purpose under the heaven:

Josie Lemelle Pennywell was born the sixth child to the Late Mr. Joseph Lemelle and Mrs. Elena Laws Lemelle on November 27, 1930 in Iota, Louisiana.
She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized by the Late Rev. Dr. Joshua Frank at New Zion Baptist Church in Eunice, Louisiana.
She graduated from North Eunice High and receive her B.S. Degree in Elementary Education from Grambling College in 1952. She was a member of the Cheerleading Squad, College Choir, Baptist Student Union and Ivy Leaf Club.
Josie married Clifford A. Pennywell on October 11, 1954. To this union, four children were born. She started her teaching career in St. Landry Parish in 1952. After 31 years with Caddo Parish School Board, she retired June 2, 1992. Josie worked tirelessly with various youth groups, such as Girl Scouts of America, 4-H Club, PTA, Booster Club and President of Eden Gardens Association. She also worked with the Red Circle, Sunshine Band, 13th District and President of Sponsorville at Baptist Youth Encampment at Southern University and GUNAA Life Member.
Josie was preceded in death by her husband Clifford A. Pennywell, sisters Lizzy Perry, Sadie Jefferson, Virginia Arnold and brother Zackery Lemelle. Josie leaves to cherish her memory, two sons, Carlos (Demetrice) and Adrian Pennywell; two daughters Breanke Mitchell and Tina (Vedareon, Sr.) Thrower. Grandchildren Carlisia Joiner, Matthew (Carla) Mitchell, Joslyn Pennywell, Vedareon and L’Murill Thrower, Angela Mitchell, Javier Pennywell, LaToyia, LaCoya, Shanequa Thrower, LaKiesha, LaNeettra Debose and 13
great-grandchildren. One brother Clifton Lemelle of Eunice, LA, three sisters Zoia Jones of Houston, TX, Ida Joyce Gafford of Shreveport, LA, Dr. Adeline Evans of Tallahassee, FL and sister-in-law Kathrine Hamilton Moore of Shreveport, LA and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives, family and friends.
