Services will be 12 noon, Saturday, August 17, 2019 at St. Luke CME, 2110 MLK Dr.  Interment will follow at Round Grove Cemetery.  Open visitation will be Friday at Heavenly Gates.

Ernestine Stromile Broom, was born October 19, 1924 to the late Peter Stromile and Clara Johnson Stromile in Plain Dealing, Louisiana.

She accepted the Lord at an early age and became a member of Calhoun Chapel C.M.E. Church in Plain Dealing, Louisiana. She graduated valedictorian from Bossier Parish Training School in Benton, Louisiana, class of 1942.

Ernestine Married Worth Broom, Jr., on May 5, 1947, and they were married for 69 years. To this union six children were born.

The family moved to Shreveport, La in 1959. She was employed with LSU Medical Center as a Dietitian Technician and retired after 25 years of service. During her 25 years of service she was never tardy or absent from work. She was a dedicated and committed member of the St. Luke CME Church, she loved working in the church and cherished praising the Lord. She served most effectively as President of the Stewardess Board, she was a Class Leader, Sunday school student, and worked with the Kitchen Ministry. Her faithfulness was greatly appreciated by the members and pastors who served at St. Luke.

Ernestine was renowned for her cooking and baking skills. She especially enjoyed baking teacakes, and sweet potato pies for family and friends. All her children knew whenever they came home for a visit, there would be teacakes to take back to their home. She led a healthy lifestyle and her favorite form of exercise was walking.

Ernestine Stromile Broom departed this life on Tuesday, August 6, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband (Worth Broom Jr.), parents (Peter and Clara Stromile), son (James Stromile), one great grandson (Kendall), one great granddaughter (Mia Victoria) and daughter in-law Gertie Rivers.

Her memories will be cherished by her 6 children: Worth Charlie Broom, Billy R. Broom (Audrey), Sherriel Owens (Gaines), Susizan Porter (Louis), Roger Broom (Deborah), and Mark Broom (Gloria); Stepdaughter, Gwendolyn Rowan; Daughter-In-Law, Marjorie Stromile; 4 Sisters-in-laws, Dorothy Player, Cecil Thompson, Carrie Broom, and Mahailier Broom; 2 brothers-in-law, Richard Broom (Elina), and Henry Broom; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of relatives and friends.
