Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, October 12, 2019 at Russell Road Church of Christ. Interment will follow at Forest Park West. Open visitation will be Friday at Heavenly Gates.
Mother, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, Friend passed from her earthly home to eternal rest on Friday, October 4, 2019 at Willis Knighton Pierremont Hospital.
Betty was born November 12, 1946 to the late Elera Lane and Sammy Spillman in Waskom, TX. She was later adopted by John and Lillie Markham and reared in Shreveport, LA. Betty was educated in the Caddo Parish School System: Central Free Methodist and she was a proud graduate of Booker T. Washington High Class of 1964.
December 14, 1968, she wed Eddie L. Stewart in Chicago, IL. To this union three children were born whom they raised with compassion, love and much humor. Betty was a faithful and longtime member of Russell Road Church of Christ.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie, mother, Elera Lane, father, Sammy Spillman, and her adoptive parents, John and Lillie Markham.
Those left to cherish her memories are her daughter, Sonya Stewart Lawson, sons, Brian P. Stewart, Sr. and Johnathan E. Stewart, Sr. all of Shreveport, LA., her siblings, Mildred Allen, Willie Lane, Maxine Lane, Elnecy Lane, Douglas Lane, Renada Lane and Denise Lane, all of Forth Worth, TX, one aunt, Mildred Sanders, sister-in-law, Patsy Smith (Raleigh, NC, brother-in -laws, John H. Stewart, III (Alma Jean)-(Plano, TX), Elbert Stewart, Charles Ray Stewart, Sr. (Shreveport, LA) and Michael Stewart, Sr. (San Antonio, TX), twelve grandchildren: Brittney, Jheronycka (Johnny), ShaMyria, Brianna, Flenesha, Dasmine, J’Kayla, John II, Jonathan, II and Brian, II, four great-granchildren, Landyn, A’Maurion, Laiylah and Sebastian and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
