Mrs. Sharon Latrice Anderson Sanders was born on June 7, 1974 to the late Leon Anderson, Sr. and Gloria Moore Anderson in Shreveport, LA. Mrs. Sanders unexpectedly passed away on Friday, July 28, 2017 at Christus Shumpert Highland Hospital in Shreveport, LA.

Sharon was a proud graduate of Huntington High School, Class of 1992, serving as a majorette and flute player in their esteemed band. Sharon also was given the honor of being named “Miss Dependable” by her classmates. After high school, she attended Louisiana Tech University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Speech Language Pathology in 1996. Continuing her education, Sharon earned her Master’s degree in Audiology in 1998. Sharon was also an amazing majorette for Louisiana Tech University band.

Sharon worked at Mollie Webb Speech and Hearing Center at Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center (LSUHSC)as a clinical audiologist and Assistant Professor of Communication Disorders. At Mollie Webb, she shared many wonderful memories with her coworkers where they functioned more as a big family than colleagues. Sharon cared and sincerely appreciated the time she spent with all her patients and students.  Sharon was a founding member of the Louisiana Academy of Audiology, serving for several years. Additionally, Sharon was a member of Louisiana Speech-Language-Hearing Association (LSHA), the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA), and licensed with the Louisiana Board of Examiners of Speech Language Pathology and Audiology. Sharon always enjoyed visiting with her patients, particularly her trips to various Caddo Parish Schools. Seeing her pediatric patients grow up and mature into young adults excited Sharon.

Sharon was baptized at an early age at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, then under the direction of Pastor David Mathews. Sharon continued to serve in the church until her death. She and her family were members of Word of Life in Shreveport, LA, where Sharon loyally served by working in the children’s ministry.

Sharon was initiated in the Theta Lambda Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. at Louisiana Tech University in 1996. Until her death, Sharon was an active member of the Delta Lambda Omega Chapter, serving in various positions. She was extremely proud to serve the chapter as the 2nd Vice President until the time of her death. She was also honored to serve the amazing Tau Epsilon Chapter at Louisiana State University-Shreveport for four years as graduate advisor.

Sharon was married to her loving husband, Charlie Sanders for over 15 years. They have two remarkable young daughters, Amaya and Tytiana. Amaya has followed in her mom’s legacy by being talented in the arts and music. Tytiana was honored to continue her legacy by becoming her Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority sister in 2014 at Louisiana Tech University. Sharon and Charlie also shared their love of being members of the “Phirst Phamily” (Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.), where they worked together as a team supporting each other’s roles in their respective organizations.

Sharon relished traveling and spending time with her family and friends. She enjoyed watching sitcoms, especially A Different World.  Following in her parents’ footsteps, Sharon had a love for music, especially the ‘90s era including her beloved New Edition.  In her spare time, Sharon could be found playing Candy Crush, reading, or filling the room with joyous laughter.

Preceding her in death were her father, Leon Anderson, Sr., maternal grandparents Beatrice and George Wade, paternal grandparents Gussie and Jewell Anderson, Sr.

Sister Sanders leaves behind to cherish her memories: husbandof 15 years, Charlie Sanders of Shreveport, LA; daughters Amaya Sanders and Tytiana Browder of Shreveport, LA; mother Gloria Anderson of Shreveport, LA; brother Leon Anderson (Claudia) of  Tallahassee, FL; Godparents Herbert and Bobbie Pleasant of Shreveport, LA;  father-in-law Michael Sanders, Sr.and mother-in-law, Shirley Sanders; brothers-in-law: Michael Sanders, Jr. (Yolanda), Marcus Sanders (Briona), and Steve Thomas (Maurice); sisters-in-law: Latonya Moch (Marcus) and Kirsten Wheeler.

Sharon also leaves a host of very close relatives including loving uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, sorority sisters and many friends that she loved dearly.

The family of Sharon Anderson Sanders would like to acknowledge all the prayers, visits, phone calls, and love shown during our bereavement. We would like to thank Christus Schumpert Highland Hospital emergency room staff and Shreveport Fire Department during our unforeseen passing of our loving Sharon.  May God continue to lead and comfort you as we remember her legacy.
