Mrs. Julia Brooks peacefully transitioned from this life on the morning of May 3rd after a sudden decline in health. She was surrounded by her family and friends during the last days of her life. Julia was born in Monroe, Louisiana on September 18, 1940 to Hazel Collins and Colton Hall. She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Avenue Baptist Church by the late Rev. L. D. Scott. Julia was united in matrimony to Calvin Brooks on March 6, 1965 and to this union was born one child. Julia and her young family later united with the Evergreen Baptist Church under the late Rev. Charlie Jefferson. She served faithfully in the Vacation Bible School Ministry, Health and Wellness Ministry, and Nurse’s Guild. She was known for hosting “The Mother Goose Row” during service where children would gather and write their “lessons”.
Julia graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1958 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Grambling State University. Julia’s love for and dedication to the children of Caddo Public Schools was evident as she labored in the classroom for 29 years, retiring finally in 1999. However, Julia returned to the classroom in 2000, when she began working at Little Union Learning Center and remained there until her health prevented her from doing so.
Julia was preceded in death by her father, Colton Hall and her mother, Hazel Collins. She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter Mia Brooks-Cooper; her brother, Colton Hall Jr.; two grandchildren, 1 niece, 1 nephew, and many loving cousins, neighbors, friends and students.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2017, 1:00 PM at Evergreen Baptist Church, 804 Allen Avenue. Pastor Arthur Douglas, officiant.
Interment will follow at Lincoln Memorial Park.
