Mr. John L. Thomas transitioned on May 14, 2016, at The Bradford Nursing Home.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2016, 11:00 AM, at Mount Bethel #1 Missionary Baptist Church on Mansfield Road in Keithville, LA.

Interment will follow in Forest Park Cemetery - West.

The Family will receive friends between the hours of 6:00 & 7:00 PM on Friday, May 20, at First Baptist Church of Vivian.

Mr. John Leland "Big John" Thomas was born December 11, 1933 to the late Mrs. Mary Lou Champ and Mr. Lorenzo Thomas in Belcher, LA and departed this world Saturday, May 14, 2016 in Shreveport, LA. John started working in the oil field at an early age and continued working in that occupation hauling water in a big rig 18-wheeler for the next fifty years. He retired in 1999 from L & S Drilling Company of Oil City, Louisiana. 

John L. was united in Holy Matrimony to Nazilree T. Thomas on January 14, 1952 and they were happily married for 64 years. From their union, seven children were born including Veronica T. Abii of Vivian, LA; Doris T. Dowell (Robert) of Keithville, LA; Sandra T. Jordan of Vivian, LA; Troy W. Thomas (Pamela) of Green Bay, WI; Rubye T. Webb (Paul) of Shreveport, LA; Dr. Debbie G. Thomas of Hartford, CT; and Theressa T. Lockett (Tracy) of Savannah, TX. 

Big John was preceeded in death by his mother and father as well as his sister, Annice Wallace and brother, Albert Dillard, Sr. He is survived by his wife, children, sister, Rose Gray, 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and host of nieces and nephews.
