SHREVEPORT, LA

Mr. George Edward Jackson, Sr., 70, transitioned on Tuesday, October 17, 2017, at his home following a brief illness.

Memorial Services will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2017, 2:30 PM, at Mary Springhill African Methodist Episcopal Church, 4426 Linwood Avenue. Pastor Demetrese D. Phillips, officiating. 

The Family will receive friends on Friday, October 20, between the hours of 4:00 & 6:00 PM, at Mary Springhill AME Church. 

George Edward Jackson, was born on March 8, 1947, in Shreveport, Louisiana, he was the youngest of seven children born to the late Mitchell Jackson, and the late Gussie Mae Johnson. 

George was baptized at an early age, at Mary Springhill African Methodist Episcopal Church, and was a life long member. He served as Vice Chairman of the Stewardship and Finance Committee, President of the Celestrial Choir,and a member of the Steward Board and the Male Chorus.

George graduated from Union High School and upon graduation completed the educational requirements for Auto Body Mechanics at Louisiana Vocational College. Passionate about his chosen vocation, George taught and trained countless students over 40 years at Caddo Parish Career Center.  

Prior to teaching George served three years of active duty in the United States Army. He was honorable discharged July 30, 1973.

He had a love of fishing, hunting, playing guitars and caring for his beloved Beagle Hounds.  He studied any new subject or interest to learn every detail, whether it was Bow Hunting or the care and planting of apple trees, he never stopped learning.  He was well known among his friends and family as a Man of few words but dependable and resourceful.  

George leaves loved ones to cherish his memory including: Wealthia Lyna, George Jr, (Mahalet), Courtney, Ashley (Joey), James, (Margaret), Ruben (Bertha), Willie B., Wardell (Catherine), Louis (Cheryl), Deloris, Yvonne (Bernard), Sandra Faye (Melvin), Dorothy (Oliver), and Clemmie (Billy), nieces, nephews, in-laws, relatives, neighbors, church family and friends.
